Stone seal from ’En Azeva (7-6th century BC)

Of Phoenician origin and alphabetic nature, Edomite is composed of 22 consonant signs, written from right to left. As specific palaeographical features, the upside-down shape of dalet and the Aramaic-like horizontal ductus deserve special interest. The 6th century BC brings about the complete graphic assimilation to Aramaic writing. Epigraphic records amount to a few seals and some ostraka.
